Since the second half of the 19th century boulders of large size and of exotic rock quality have been recovered from Pleistocene gravel deposits in various locations: along the Danube River between Győr and Délegyháza (Hungary) and from alluvial fans in the northern, western and south-eastern foreland of the Mátra Mountains and from alluvial fans of the Sajó and Hernád Rivers as well as probably of the Maros River. The distribution of boulders and their deposition pattern point to fluvial origin but it is also possible that their movement started with ice rafting. The paper presents data from literature along with author's own observations. - (AM)
