The recent process of “transition” from industrial to post-industrial/post-fordist era entails two different kind of effects for the territoires involved. On the one hand, the economic changeover should mean a greater level of development opportunities based on local resources. On the other hand, the transition needs a greater level of institutional consciousness and responsibility in the decision and planning process. The paper discusses this two aspects of the transition process in the specific field of tourism development. - (NF)
