Religious tourism is a form of mobility that is strongly motivated for spiritual reasons, but also to know the culture of a population. Pilgrimage is one of the oldest and most basic forms of population mobility known to human society. Political, social, cultural and economic implications of this types of tourism have always been, and continue to be, substantial. The purpose of this paper is to examine the traditional conception of religious tourism and pilgrimage and their evolution in time. Moreover, this article establishes a comparison between the pilgrimage, religious and cultural tourism and highlights the important function the religious tourism has in the modern societies. - (NF)
