The article analyses the causes and the effects of the terrible flood that hit the province of Messina in October 2009. The environmental human responsabilities and the concern of the territory, in order to guarantee safety to the masses, have made possible a disaster. Considering all the possible proposals based on environmental protection and on the recovery of ancient settlements, some people have tried to suppose the best alternatives to guarantee a better future to the communities hit by the flood. - (NF)
