Description :
The text tells the story of the Laboratory and its various transformations, as well as its cartographic output. Its greatest achievements would be the development of Narodowy Atlas Polski (The National Atlas of Poland, 1973–1978), as well as Atlas Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej (The Atlas of the Republic of Poland, 1993–1997) as commissioned by the Surveyor-General of Poland. Following the introduction of computer cartography and the development of the Internet, it was possible to develop a digital map of Poland at 1:100,000 scale and a subject-related Internet atlas, as well as to devise two detailed road atlases for tourists. The place of the Laboratory closed down at the start of 2011 was taken by the GIS and Cartography Workgroup. – (BJ)
