Climatic differentiation at local level is now the subject of many studies, it being noted how air temperature is particularly sensitive to local conditions. Specifically, the temperature values observed in different types of landscape differ from so-called “standard conditions”. The aim of the work described here was thus to determine quantitatively the influence of different local-scale elements of the landscape on the thermal conditions prevailing within them. To this end, use was made of the results of relevant fieldwork carried out at the local scale in the years 2001-8, at 33 sites across Poland. This revealed a clear relationship between values for air temperature obtained on the local scale and such local landscape features as the way in which and extent to which an area is built-up, valley size and slope exposure. – (BJ)
