Description :
The authors refer to their own research, relatively rich cartographic resources and the scientific literature to distinguish between and characterize some 17 kinds of natural landscape, as well as 31 landscape variations. The main criteria used in identifying kinds of landscape concerned the genesis of relief determined in relation to affinities with relevant sorts of natural landscape (i.e. glacial, fluvioglacial, eolian, valley and depression), as well as the morphography and hypsometry of landforms (flat or undulating plains, hummocks, hills, elevations, ridges, high slopes, etc). In the identification of natural landscape variations, a major role was played by relief (determined in the same way as with kinds of landscape), the lithology of superficial deposits, and land use (forests, arable land, meadows and pastures). – (BJ)
