The impact of job and household decentralization on commuting distances and travel modes. Experiences from the Copenhagen region and other Nordic urban areas

Auteur :
NAESS, P.

Description :
Studies in several cities show longer commuting distances among residents of peripheral parts of urban areas than among inner-city dwellers. Inhabitants of the outer parts of the urban regions also have a higher propensity of commuting by car than those who live close to the city center. Conversely a high proportion of the latter residents commute by non-motorized modes. There is also quite strong evidence that a decentralized location of office workplaces contributes to increase the proportion of car commuters, compared to a central workplace location. - (IfL)
