Migration from the Balkans to Austria. Recent patterns and present impact

Over the past decades several European countries registered extensive international migration flows. Like other European countries Austria has witnessed large migration movements, especially from the Balkans. Migration from southeastern Europe is dominated by young people and has therefore become a driving demographic factor in Austria. The statistic on international migration show the importance of the Balkan countries as a main source of immigration though there are variations in quantity and relevance of individual countries over time. - (IfL)
