Description :
This paper addresses 3 matched microenvironments, namely cobbles that are exposed but whose surfaces vary between lichen covered and lichen free, and cobbles that are buried in the soil at about 40 cm. This suite of microenvironments is examined at the glacier snout, on recessional moraines crests dated at A.D. 1928, 1870,1810 and 1750 and finally on the 10 000-year-old land surface beyond the 1750 Little Ice Age terminal moraine that demarcates the glacier foreland. Discussion of the results.
