Description :
The vertical distribution of porosity throughout a clay-rich marsh soil profile was studied in a grassland field with samples taken from the soil surface characterized by water contents near their shrinkage limit down to 2.00 m deep saturated sediments over their liquidity limit. Samples were taken from soils of a marsh located at the experimental site of St Laurent de la Prée near Rochefort. The petrographic observations point out the role of the initial honey-comb and isotropic structure of the Flandrian sediment in the development of the structural profiles of marsh soils.
