Description :
The study area is located in the Saint-François River basin which is affected by periodic floods. The aims of this study are to (i) inventory and analyze the floodplain soils using morphological and physical and chemical parameters in order to determine their pedogenetic development, (ii) determine the floodplain sedimentation rates using radiocarbon (C 14) and isotopic (Pb 210, Rd 226) dating methods, and (iii) characterize the spatial contamination (e.g. hydrocarbons) of alluvial soils, including the depth of the contaminated layers observed in the soil profiles.
