Can abundance of geomorphological features be predicted using presence-absence data ?

Auteurs :
HJORT, J.
LUOTO, M.

Description :
The AA. examine the relationship between the probabilities of occurrence (landform present in a modelling square) and observed abundance (spatial coverage of landform in a modelling square) of 4 types of geomorphological feature : palsas, earth hummocks, peat pounus and sorted solifluction sheets. To calibrate the statistical models the AA. used spatial predictors and geomorphological data from a thoroughly inventoried area of 600 km2 in sub-Arctic Finland at a resolution of 25 ha. The generalized linear models (GLMs) derived from presence-absence data performed as models derived directly from the abundance data.
