Agriculture et changement dans l'utilisation du sol dans le polje de Ljubljansko

Description :
In the last century and a half, Ljubljana has expanded substantially. The build-up has been most distincly oriented toward the north onto the traditionally agricultural gravel plain of Ljubljansko polje. Because this area is also where the main pumping stations for the city's drinking water supply are located, water protection zones were established that to a certain extent have prevented the build-up on fertile agricultural land. In spite of this, urbanization is the primary process changing land use, and due to the regulation of the Sava River the area close to the river has experienced quite extensive agricultural intensification. Due to the pressures of urbanizations, agriculture oriented primarely toward stock raising and truck farming important for the supply of the city is losing the foundation of its existence, and former completely agricultural settlements on the city's edge have already experienced fundamental functional and morphological transformations. - (IKR)
