Description :
In order to evaluate suitability of natural environment for human settlements in China, as an important factor influencing the distribution of population, relief degree of land surface (RLDS) is taken as an index for natural environment evaluation of human settlements. Based on the concept and macro-scale digital elevation model datum and ARC/INFO software, the RLDS at a 10kmx10km grid size of China is extracted. The AA. depict the spatial distribution of RLDS by analyzing its ratio structure, spatial distribution and altitudinal characters systematically and analyze its correlation with population density at grid size.
