Local floods in the Nida Basin

Description :
The subjects of analysis were the hydrological parameters of flash floods as well as the physiographic parameters of the Nida Basin. The part of the basin in which bank full capacity has been exceeded and damage done has been described using physiographic parameters. The analysis pointed out characteristic values of the analyzed basins. Moreover, the outcomes indicated that the basins are susceptible to the appearance of violent floods. The parameters of basins can be examined prior to the event. Comparing parameters with those of basins in wich flash floods have occurred provides for an indication of those that are susceptible to local flood occurence. In such basins flood protection measures should be applied.
