For the littoral states of the North Sea an extremely varied pictures results with regard to the present and intended function, the legal basis and the institutional set-up of integrated coastal zone management (ICZM). The initial situation, guiding principles, inventories and strategic approaches as well as the general legal and institutional conditions of ICZM in Denmark, the Netherlands and Great Britain are presented in the article. - (IFL)
