Enterprises that belong to the information economy (IE) have an explicit tendency towards clustering. Basing on the analysis of three German IE clusters and following an explorative, actor-oriented approach, the paper takes a closer look at the reasons and driving forces for regional clustering within the IE and questions the relevance of different theoretical concepts to explain regional clusters. - (IFL)
