Description :
An attempt has been made in this paper to discuss the fluvial processes and morphological aspects of the river Brahmaputra within Assam, especially from its upper reach. The channel of the Brahmaputra River has been migrating because of channel widening and avulsion. The braiding index of the Brahmaputra has been increasing between 1928 and 1996. Shear failure of upper bank and liquefaction of clayey-silt materials are two main causes of bank erosion.
