Description :
This paper details the design and performance of such a turbidimeter (the HOBS Harry's Optical Backscatter Sensor) developed for spatially distributed monitoring of suspended sediment in proglacial streams. The effectiveness of the HOBS in determining suspended sediment concentration is determined using bulk field sediment in the laboratory, and its field performance assessed from a network installed for one ablation season in 2 proglacial streams at Small River Glacier in the Canadian Rockies.
