Auteurs :
TAYLOR, M.P.
STOKES, R.

Description :
This paper examines why the definition of a river is an important and ongoing management issue, and outlines the development of legal definitions of river. Finally, the role of fluvial geomorphology is discussed with respect to the definition of a river and its channel. This analysis will reveal whether the existing legislative framework adequately reflects the physical realities of rivers and watercourses so as to facilitate their conservation.
