Basal sediment evacuation by subglacial meltwater : suspended sediment transport form Haut Glacier d'Arolla, Switzerland

Description :
Proglacial suspended sediment transport was monitored at Haut Glacier d'Arolla, during the 1998 melt season to investigate the mechanisms of basal sediment evacuation by subglacial meltwater. The AA. use regression analyses to rigorously constrain relationships between proglacial suspended sediment transport and discharge. The results are discussed in relation to contemporaneous changes in both glacier motion and hydraulics of the subglacial drainage system, to elucidate the mechanisms of basal sediment evacuation by subglacial meltwater. The wider geomorphic implications of these mechanisms are also discussed.
