Description :
The AA. consider the importance of the lithosphere flexural strength on the isostatic response of the system to erosion. Using a numerical method to solve the heat transport equation in 3 dimensions, the AA. show how a synthetic age distribution can be computed and how it is affected by their assumption about the isostatic response of the lithosphere to surface unloading. The AA. then investigate whether the age distribution is sensitive to the assumed erosional response time. Finally they use an inversion method to extract information on the rate of surface relief evolution in the Dabie Shan, from a thermochronological dataset collected by Reiners et al. (2003) in the area.
