Description :
This study investigates the origin of closed depressions (CDs) in a study area southwest of Leuven. First, a study of the morphological characteristics of the CDs was made. Next, the relationship between the spatial distribution of the CDs and geology, topography and land use was investigated. Based on a review of historical archives and on soil augerings, the origin of the CDs was reconstructed. In addition, the infilling of one CD was studied in detail to determine the mean erosion rate since cultivation began in the study area, and this erosion rate is compared with published data.
