Surface sample collection and dust source analysis in northwestern China

Description :
An exploratory attempt to identify the potential source areas (PSAs) of dust is carried out in northwestern China. The attempt includes surface sample collection in fields and analysis of the samples. Sample collections cover surface types such as mobile dunes, deteriorated land, Gobi desert and lacustrine sediment which were identified as major PSAs in previous studies in northwestern China. The experiments include analysis of particle surface microtextures using the scanning electron microscope (SEM), identification of particle mineral composition, documentation of particle size fractions and measurement of element contents of samples.
