Visualization issues in the development of electronic atlas in China

Description :
The AA. discuss the development of electronic atlas in China, with focus on the issues of visualization. They particularly categorise this development into 4 periods, and then analyse the characters in each period and discuss the visualization issues. The 4 periods are highlighted : Infant period (<1990), computer assisted mapping with products of screen maps; Starting period (1991-1995), object-oriented mapping with products of interactive maps/atlas; Advancing period (1996-2000), integrated mapping with products of multimedia cartographic maps; New era (>2001), web mapping and adaptative map design.
