Description :
This paper estimates rates of bedrock surface lowering by chemical weathering associated with a relict lake shoreline in an area of calcitic metamorphic rocks in the low-alpine zone of southern Norway, and sheds light on the environmental controls. Calculated bedrock lowering rates are compared with estimates from other periglacial environments and the importance of micro-environmental conditions near lake level are emphasized. This study has implications for understanding the processes involved in the chemical weathering and landscape denudation of cold regions.
