Analysis of the differences between in the numbers of people revealed by the 2002 National Census and the annual census of 2001. The discrepancies are shown to be characterized by a specific spatial pattern, in that areas shown to have more inhabitants in the displaying the opposite trend are mostly peripheral. Detailed research centred on the Warsaw agglomeration (shown by the National Census to have an additional 100,000 inh.), the conurbation of Katowice (a difference of -70,000) and the Sudety Mountains and Foreland (c. - 50,000). Generally, the observed disparities result from the previously-known phenomenon of domestic migration. - (BJ)
