Description :
This paper describes the climate, vegetation, and fire history of the Siskiyou Mountains based on the interpretation of a 17,000-yr-long record of pollen, charcoal and sediment properties from Bolan Lake. The objectives are : to examine the sensitivity of the Siskiyou forests to known climate variations during the late-glacial and Holocene periods and to identify the timing of establishment of the present-day forests; to compare the Bolan Lake results with other paleoecological records and paleoclimate model simulations in order to assess the influence of broad patterns of environmental change and the history of floristic gradients within the region.
