Description :
The characteristics of foredunes created in a municipal management program on a developed barrier island are evaluated to identify how landform used as protection structures can be natural in appearance and function yet compatible with human values. A brief environmental history of Avalon is provided, and the topographic, sedimentologic, and vegetation characteristics of the dunes are described. Conclusions are then drawn about the significance of activities in Avalon to landform evolution and the advantages similar activities offer to other municipalities.
