Patterns of sediment slug translation and dispersion following typhoon-induced disturbance, Oyabu Creek, Kyushu, Japan

Description :
This study examines the interaction between translation and dispersion of macro- and mega-scale sediment slugs and riffle-pool structure based on an extensive monitoring programme undertaken from 1993 to 1999 along Oyabu Creek. Bedrock oucrops are the dominant forcing element along the study reach, resulting in the formation of an imposed riffle-pool structure. Major sediment inputs that resulted in channel bed aggradation were caused by typhoons in August 1993 and September 1997. Changes to the size and pattern of sediment slugs following disturbance are related to flow conditions, sediment avaibility, and channel bed roughness.
