Contributions to the understanding of geomorphic landscapes published in the Annals

Description :
Six principles that underlie contemporary understanding of landscape structure and function are identified and used as a framework to evaluate contributions published. Research trends in the papers are identified for 4 periods, with attention to the development of fundamental geomorphic concepts and advances in the 6 principles. Influential papers (Fenneman 1928; Peltier 1950; Knox 1972; Marston 1982) one from each of the 4 periods, are critically evaluated in terms of their influence on subsequent scholarship and their contribution to conceptual understanding.
