Geochronological evidence for pervasive miocene weathering, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Description :
To test the hypothesis that similar weathering profiles within a particular geomorphological province can be regionally correlated based on their age, the AA. have analyzed supergene Mn oxides from 3 similar weathering profiles in a single geomorphological province, the Brazilian Atlantic Plateau, Minas Gerais. Good correlations between the weathering geochronology data and independent paleoclimatic proxies suggesting warm and humid conditions for the 10-8 Ma interval (Late Miocene) indicates that weathering geochronology may be a useful tool in continental paleoclimatic history reconstruction.
