Reflections on the nature of soil and its biomantle

Auteurs :

Description :
The AA. examine some historical turning points that led soil scientists to embrace a plant-linked, agronomic-inspired, environmental factors approach to explain soil formation and to turn away from a process-oriented and animal-linked approach championed by Darwin and others. The AA. advance a multifaceted and biodynamic approach where soil is viewed as the skin of planetary landforms, but where on Earth, the biomantle comprises a unique global epidermis. They advocate a biomantle-emphasized, subaerial-subaqueous view of Earth's soil as a global continuum.
