Roughness - time for a re-evaluation ?

Soil erosion patterns : evolution, spatio-temporal dynamics and connectivity. Special issue

Auteurs :
LANE, S.N.
HELMING, K.

Description :
In this commentary, the A. argues that the geographers have overlooked the real meaning of roughness which, strictly, is a component of topography that has to be parameterized, rather than a component that has any meaning in itself. Re-evaluation of roughness as topography has the potential to allo boundary deformation to be explored in more realistic and numerically robust ways, and to provide a much more useful research tool.
