Description :
This paper aims to classify alpine lobes in terms of morphology and then to assess controls on these forms. A variety of lobate features were investigated in the Swiss Alps with reference to the morphometry and controlling factors. Active features were targeted, since inactivation is often accompanied by a morphological change due to permafrost thaw or erosional processes. The lobate features are then classified in terms of the morphological parameters and transport processes evaluated by instrumental observations. Finally, the possibility is explored that morphometry might be used as an indicator of periglacial environments.
