In both research documents and government projects, the socio-economic development of rural areas is seen as stemming from non-agricultural activity. The multifunctional character of those areas not mean that the role of farming is going to be on the decline in all the regions of Poland. The role of this sector of the national economy is determined not only by its share in GDP generation, which keeps showing a downward tendency throughout the country, but also by the importance of food production for the country and farming productivity for the regions. It is assumed in agricultural geography that productivity is determined by the volume of agricultural output with reference to such factors of production as land, labour, and capital. - (BJ)
