Développement d'une activité non agricole dans certaines communes rurales de l'agglomération urbaine de Łódź

The paper analyses trends in non-agricultural employment. It was found that non-agricultural activities have experienced a substantial growth in communes adjacent to the city of Łódż. The period 1993-2000 saw an increase in the service sector, particularly in trade, accompanied by a decline in manufacturing. This period the basis for the conclusion that exogenous activities in these communes play a complementary role with respect to the endogenous functions of Łódź. In the communes situated in the peripheral zone of the Łódź urban aggomeration, changes occur very slowly and the service sector is mainly oriented towards the farm population. - (BJ)
