Le pergélisol dans les monts Tatra : âge, caractéristiques et évolution

Auteur :
DOBIŃSKI, W.

Description :
The aim of this paper has thus been to give an estimate of the age of the permafrost, as well as to assess such specific features as : temperature, depth of the permafrost table and permafrost base, an amount and age of ice. In the paper information is given on the genesis of Tatra permafrost and its evolution in the Holocene together with glacier retreat. The values for permafrost temperature are in the range -0.02 to -8.79°C. Calculations show that the shortest time necessary for complete melting of the permafrost at this altitude in the Tatra Mts. is 7750 years, and the longest 17,179 years. This would suggest that, considering the most favourable conditions, there are still chances that the Pleistocene permafrost (glacier ice ?) in the Tatra Mts. has lested through to the present time. - (BJ)
