Beyond imperial domination and resistance : extrapolating the late colonial Amazonian cultural landscape from the visual record
Auteur :MARX DELSON, R.
Description :
A. examines iconographic and cartographic evidence of late-eighteenth-century Amazonian and finds that the Portuguese often adopted or adapted indigenous knowledge into the construction of material culture, even while speaking of Europeanizing the local population. She concludes that the reductionist global paradigms of imperial control should be replaced with a consideration of how the reconfiguration of colonial landscapes included the input of indigenous populations. - (SLD)
