Reviews the history of the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), which was founded in 1983 and has its main focus on the Hindu-Kush-Himalayas. ICIMOD primarily serves as a multidisciplinary documentation and information center. It is now working on sustainable mountain development in the HKH region. With a staff of 140, ICIMOD annually publishes about 40 monographs on a wide range of topics and triannually publishes a newsletter and Issues in Mountain Development. - (SLD)
