Grassroots-based watershed conservation in Central Appalachia

Author discusses watershed conservation measures in West Virginia, which has 32 catchment areas. Each watershed is evaluated officially for a number of factors every five years. In addition, there are 90 grass-roots watershed associations that deal with nonpoint polllution, sewage, water quantity, and land management and other issues. A case study of the watershed association in Knapps Creek, West Virginia is presented. - (SLD)
