Discussion of the European section of the Mountain Forum, a global network committed to sustainable development in mountain regions. The european section promotes sustainable development and management of Europe's mountains, facilitates exchange between interested parties, and encourages education, public awareness, and technical assistance related to the first goal. In 1998, the European Mountain forum had over 460 members and local nodes in the Carpathians, the Caucasus, the Mediterranean Mountains (including North Africa), and the Middle Mountains of Central and Western Europe.
