Energizing rural space : the representation of countryside culture as an economic development strategy

Auteur :
BASCOM, J.

Description :
The significance of rural has shifted from a production orientation to a consumption role. The central concern of rurality is now the construction and representation of appealing countryside identities. Cultural and historical resources of a particular time are valorized. Paper examines how this is achieved in the huge entertainment complex of Branson, Missouri, a country music center of the United States and a place so energized that the tranquil, rural landscape has been leveled for urban development. - (SLD)
