Topomystica : investigation into the concept of mystic place

Auteur :
CHAMBERLAIN, P.G.

Description :
Paper begins with a discussion of place, mysticism, and genius loci, or the spirit of place, in order to define mystic place within a cultural context. The term topomystica is proposed to differentiate this concept from that of sacred space. A typology is then presented to identify the major characteristics of topomystica. Mystic Spring, in Victoria, British Columbia is examined to explore topomystica at a specific site. A. concludes that topomystica allows one to experience a reenchantment of the world via a heightened spiritual view of the landscape. - (SLD)
