The tourist trade in Pesaro goes back to the first decades of the Nineteenth century and had elitist features as shown by several villas and small villas built between the roveresca town and the sea around the Kursaal and by the boulevard-side. The touristic activity was suddenly interrupted by the outbreak of World War I, after which, through the realization of summer homes, hotels and villas, the garden city was born. After the second world war numerous hotels and guesthouses were built until the early '70's. Today Pesaro, beside bathing tourism, is trying to develop the cultural, environmental and thermal resources of the entire provincial territory diversificating the accomodation offer and protecting the sustainable development. - (NF)
