An ancient capital of Rakhine (Arakan)
Auteur :SHWE ZAN,
Description :
After a general presentation of the Rakhine State, the A. describes Mrauk-U and all the Arakanese monuments according to their special interest, historical, architectural and cultural importance. Chapters are devoted to Buddhism in Arakan, ancient sites (Dhanyawaddy, Vesali and Laungret) and the capital Sittwe (Akyab). While the Arakanese question is crucial to the relationship between Burma and Bangladesh, the medias regularly come up with the problems encountered by the muslims refugies (Rohingyas) from Arakan (in fact illegal Bengalis migrants) at the border. The book is useful to understand the traditional Buddhist Arakanese culture. - (GL)
