Description :
This paper examines the geometry of the gullies and their spatial organization and their spatial organization in relation to topography and former land use patterns at the time of their formation. Old maps and historical data are used to assess the spatial and temporal development of gully networks and identify erosion periods. Underlying causes of gully formation are investigated, and the widely assumed synchronisme of gullying phases in Central Europe over the last millenium is reassessed. Finally, the evolution of gullies from their initiation to their stabilization is outlined. Attention is focused on relic gullies.
