A place for RandD ? The Singapore science park

The paper explores the realities of science park formation. Adequate institutional thickness and local embeddedness apply only to a small number of RandD firms in the Park. The myth that spatial proximity to RandD institutions and organisations automatically results in collaborative efforts is examined. There is an urgent need for a transformation in the prevailing thinking of economic planning, RandD policies and urban development.
