Climate factors that caused the unique Tall Grass Prairie in the central United States

This article reviews the area's geologic-climate history and the diversity of explanations for the exitence of the Tall Grass Prairie, TP. Long-term climate data from the 20th century are used to assess the region's relevant climate variables, as identified in prior studies, and to identify the thresholds of conditions considered to explain differences between prairie and nonprairie areas.
